Notwithstanding the differences in policy, Norsheen Bhatti -never heard of her- well you wouldn't as she used to be a Liberal Democrat, has decided to join the Tories.
In her letter of resignation to "Calamity" Nick Clegg I tried to establish the principled reasons for her defection and amongst other things found the gem of a quote that the Liberals were "drifting into the wilderness". Not that they've ever been there before.
However, it got me thinking about the increasing level of political switching involving Muslim politicos like Saj Karim MEP, (Lib Dem-Tory) Cllr Munir Ahmed, (Labour-Tory), Former PPC Rehman Chisti (Labour-Tory) and now Bhatti. Not to mention those comedians from Respect who seem to switch like the weather.
If suddenly this all about conscience why is it nobody ever switches to a unpopular party rather than one that is 17% ahead in the polls? Looking at the example of Bhatti who was selected by the Lib Dems to fight a hopeless seat (Chelsea and Fulham) one of the Tories safest, can we have some honesty please. She changes her view on eg Iraq/Afghanistan and joins cuddly Dave "I'm proud to call myself a Zionist" Cameron because of power not principles. How desperately sad which perhaps adequately sums up this women - desperate and sad.
