London 2012 is the organisation tasked with managing the 2012 Olympic Games. You may well remember the pride we all felt when as Londoners and Muslims our City beat Paris with considerable support from the Muslim world to secure the bid. In addition, you may also recall the bid video of black and Muslim faces and Seb Coe highlighting the importance of London's diversity in securing the Games.
However, scratch beneath the superficiality of the growing number of spin merchants at 2012 and ask yourself what exactly are they doing with our London Muslim council taxpayers money and how are they reflecting London Muslims in their work.
The first thing they do is appoint a millionaire banker from Goldman Sachs to be their Chief Executive. A man who seems to spend an inordinate amount of time taking "holidays" in Israel. Coincidentally, 2012 seem to have a very good relationship with Israel's IOC member Alex Gilady. Interestingly, he's often to be seen in the company of 2012 and when required for the world's media can always be relied on for a sympathetic quote.
The next thing they do is appoint Alex Balfour as their head of New Media. So what you may ask. Ah, Mr Balfour is the grandson of the infamous Lord Arthur Balfour former British PM who was responsible for the Balfour Declaration that led to the creation of the state of Israel. Have a guess how many Muslims Mr Balfour employs, I'll give you a clue, its below the number 1.
So what you may still ask bet they have a community relations team. Well, yes they do, but why is it their focus seems to be managing the concerns of a small minority of Zionist extremists who appear determined, at the behest of their political masters in Israel, to get a memorial built in London to mark the 30th anniversary of the Munich massacre of Israeli athletes. Have a guess how many Muslims they employ, again, I'll give you a clue its below the number 1.
"The cultural Olympiad" a so called celebration of culture has already been launched. What celebration of muslim culture and civilasation is included in the plans. Have a guess how many Muslims are employed by their culture team. No more clues.
Oh, and you may know that 2012 is being held during Ramadan. Oh thanks guys, so while we Muslims will be primarily although not exclusively focused on fasting, prayer and contemplation the rest of our great city will be focused on the world's biggest sporting event in our backyard.

Sir, it is not just London Muslim taxpayers' money being wasted in this manner - it is the money of every taxpayer whether they be Muslim,Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh or what have you. You are beginning to realise that we are all mis-used by politicians who's weasel words, whilst sounding the most reasonable words on earth, do very little to serve the community, regardless of the community's ethnic or religious background.
ReplyDeleteI must apologise for posting on a blog for London Muslims as a white, British Christian, but I believe that we would all benefit from learning from each other.
I understand that there is antipathy of long standing between all sides but, even though you point out that Balfour helped create the state of Israel, it may have been better balanced if you had pointed out that the country of Iraq is also an artificial country created by politicians, albeit much earlier than 1948.
Once politicians dictate these things, then perhaps we should all worry.
The saddest part I find in all this is that we all accept there is One God, Mohammed ( Peace be upon Him) was a prophet as was Jesus ( it is sometimes also difficult for we Christians to accept that he is the Son of God) and surely, we are all descended from Abraham/Ibrahim if the various religious tracts are to be believed. Please, then - why all these arguments rather than an understanding and acceptance between people that there may be more than one path to God?
Sir, a second comment - or rather, a question. In your second last paragraph you mention that the Olympics are taking place in 2012 during Ramadan. As a lorry driver who delivered to a lot of Muslim businesses, I was always of the importance of Ramadan and the implications of the fasting during daylight. It was the nature of the roads that sometimes you were late arriving and I would suggest that the staff went to the mosque for prayers and break the fast and I would sleep in my lorry overnight and deliver first thing the following day.
ReplyDeleteGiven that Easter in the Christian calendar is a very important date, it also is a moveable religious period perhaps dictated by the differences between the Gregorian and Julian calendars.
How do you calculate Ramadan so far in advance ? Is it on the Islamic calendar ? Or perhaps through the phases of the moon which given fixed time periods, allows for precise timings and calculations ?
This is Britain, what Muslims want or think is irrelevant. If people don't like that they are welcome to leave.

ReplyDeleteWhether you like it or not, there are second and third, if not fourth generation Muslim Uk citizens who were born to immigrants to this country ( in the sixties I had two very valued colleagues who were Muslim when I was a Royal Marine) - they are not all fundamentalists or terrorists and have as much to fear from that scenario as anyone else. Whilst the current crop of terrorists are claiming to be Muslim ( although their actions go against the Qu'ran), it's not too long ago ( in fact they are still here) that all the terrorists were both Catholic and Protestant Christians whose actions were not Christian !
You should, if you cannot try to understand other cultures andreligions, go elsewhere with your bile. If they were bon here and you don't like the way this country is developing, then you are welcome to leave too, and let the rest of us carry on learning how to live together.

Anonymous : There have been Muslims, Jews and other religions living here since at least the Middle Ages- certainly the Crusades to the Holy land - if not before. Prior to that we had Norse rulers with their various Gods; prior to that we had Roman rulers ( before they became a Christian people) when the indigenous people of these lands were Pagans. We ARE a nation of immigrants of different religious backgrounds so - if history defeats you then please, take your obvious unChristian manner away from here or stay and put true Christian beliefs first, as do the moderate Muslims with their beliefs and yes, the moderate Jews with theirs.

ReplyDeleteAs ever the people near the bottom of the world pile, i.e you me and the previous bloggers, always have been,and probably will continue to be divided along a myriad of arbitrary and non-sensical lines. Whether a particular centre of consciousness be affiliated to this or that religion/football team etc is of little to no consequence. What we are together as a critical mass of intelligence is everything. Try to understand how we are being divided and ruled over by a tiny minority of powerfull yet ill willed entities.

No non muslims allowed within 5 miles of mecca... So welcome to England & be appreciative of being allowed to follow your faith ...something NOT offered by Muslims. If you dont like England try moving to Saudi!!
ReplyDeleteEngland has accepted ALL aspects of multi- cultural living, numerous races & all types of religious buildings ... how does this compare to somewhere like Saudi Arabia the No1 Muslim country with the 2 most Holy Muslim sites ... having lived in Saudi I am fully aware of what this means... No churches or other religious buildings allowed No freedom to express your own Fait, without fear of in prisonment .. So if you dont like the fact that YOU have the privilige to follow your faith in the UK & can only criticize England... mat I suggest you & all the other whining hard done by Muslims, 'push off' to Saudi Arabia...OR shut the hell up & appreciate the freedoms you have here. !!

These games are done way in advanced and to ask them to change it to suit the muslims is ridiculous. If you muslims don't like it then leave. After all I'm sure it won't hurt the Brits feelings if all the muslims did leave.
