The half pint president of France Shorty Sarkozy has laid the groundwork for a possible ban on the "burkha" in a speech today in France. What's confusing me is the "breach of individual freedom" tag often associated with those who wear the veil.
Apparently, Shorty believes in the freedom of choice which allows his wife to model naked but not the other end of the scale which allows a women to freely express her religious customs and tradition. He could take a lesson from the mature civilised approach of President Hussein Obama on freedom of religion when he said “we are not going to tell people what to wear”.
As far as I'm concerned it says a lot about the priorities of nation when its President can devote so much attention to what some women wear which in reality is a further attempt to stigmatise 5 million French Muslims and divert attention from the economy

Check your Koran, so-called London Muslim, there's nothing in it about burkhas or bags over women's heads. It simply requires men and women to dress modestly. End of.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Roman Catholic woman living in Saudi Arabia, where a lot of the Government's time is devoted to telling me that I must wear the abaya. This also speaks volumes about the priorities of that particular nation. Not only can I not freely express my religious customs and traditions, it is out-lawed for me to practice my religion AT ALL. I accept that Saudi is a Muslim country - just as you should accept that France (and Britain) are Christian countries.
ReplyDeletegive me a break madam,I graduated fromRoman Catholic school and all my 9 years of education I was forced to go for half n hour chapple before the classes starts,I being a muslim never complained or said bad about it,therefore. madam let us respect the law of the land after all you are thier for better earning and to have a better lifestyle . think!
ReplyDeleteWhilst upholding freedom of dress in a social setting,i feel uncomfortable dealing with anybody whose face is obscured.Part of the interaction of human contact is to see peoples facial expressions reflect the rapport that we establish.By the same token i would feel just as awkward dealing with Mrs Sarko whilst she were naked.
