Bruce Forsyth: You idiot

Bruce Forsyth has said we should have a "sense of humour" when it comes to the racism levelled at Laila Rouass on Strictly come Dancing. What a Twat.

Tory characters like Brucie who loved and supported Thatcher are frankly from a bygone age of black and white TV, and just don't get it. Nobody should have to put up with hurtful racist language least of all on a major flagship entertainment show.

Bruce is right that 20 or 30 years ago right wing Tories like him would consider the term "Paki" a bit of humour. However, those on the receiving end of such abuse did not. That's why Anti Racist's and Anti Nazi's across the union movement and politically fought battles in the 80s sometimes literally to ensure we no longer accept or tolerate unacceptable language or jokes targeting a person race. During these battles the right and tabloid press pilloried the movement claiming the progressive left was trying to ban mention of "black coffee" etc.

Frankly it's no surprise that Bruce defends The Berk who some have uncharitably described as his love child in view of their similar features.

Please continue to contact the BBC with your complaints and demand the removal of the vile Berk.
