Tory Muslims and the most powerful Muslim Woman in the UK

The Tory Party conference in Blackpool begins with the annual gathering of Dave's cudly Eton rifles. As a result thought it appropriate to highlight the activities and work of Muslims who are engaged with the Tory Party.

Notwithstanding the power hungry turncoats like Nosh Bhatti and Saj Karim the Tory's do have some big hitting Muslim characters within their ranks in Sayeeda Warsi, Lord Sheikh and Syed Kamal MEP.

While others will highlight the personal aspects of some these leading Tory characters particularly his Lordship shagging his mistress and Warsi being a divorcee who recently and mysteriously remarried an old school colleauge, London Muslim will avoid personal deficiencies and highlight policies.

I think it takes a special brew of Muslim to be a Tory, a party that has traditionally been hostile to BME communities despite some outstanding individuals who opposed the racism of Enoch Powell. Ted Heath showed courage in taking on Powell over his rivers of blood speech and their has always been a decent moderate One nation Tory derisively called "wet's" by Thatcher. However, things have moved on in today's Tory Party with the Bow Group considered old fashioned fuddy duddy's which leads Sayyeda Warsi to say she is "traditional and right wing". Ironically a number of traditional and right wing characters find a happy home in the BNP and EDL.

The Tories have a women group originally called the Conservative Muslim Women's Group which seems to be an outfit set up for old white woman to reminisce about the good old days of the Raj. You can imagine the conversation about how so an so's husband brigadier Hufty Tufty enjoyed his time with the Natives and had some fantastic servants who did an amazing job serving breakfast. Although a Muslim group ironically it's President is a Lady Fiona Hodgson who now seems to be reasonably confident that Muslim women can do a little more than serve up the odd samosa and as result Dr Sahzia Ovaizi "has agreed to become the Chairman". Interesting how between all 3 of them Warsi, Hodgson & Ovaizi have probably never been elected to anything. What subjects do they focus on hmm anti Zionism, Islamophobia well no actually the future of Pakistan, the female face of Afghanistan. etc etc. I think you get the message.

While London Muslim is delighted Muslims are politically engaged in the Tory party and I must admit having a bit of a soft spot for Warsi, must be her Yorkshire accent the reality is, do Muslim woman feel someone like Warsi who sends her daughter to private school, did a runner after 9/11 & exiled herself in Pakistan, made some anti gay remarks during the 2005 election, calls for stricter immigration controls in other words pulling up the draw bridge really has the political answers for Muslims?

Despite some noble work like the establishment of the savayra foundation in the opinion of London Muslim someone like Warsi who claims her support is from the "blue rinse brigade" and who proudly calls herself a right winger has all the wrong answers.
