Egypt warned by FIFA after fans attack Algerian team

Anyone who knows their international football will appreciate the intense rivalry and at times hatred between the fans of Egypt and Algeria who play each today in a crucial World Cup qualifier.

Unfortunately the rivalry spilled over yesterday into a nasty attack by Egyptian supporters on the Algerian Team bus injuring some players and possibly forcing them out of today's game.

FIFA have rightly warned Egypt to get its act together and makes sure visiting teams are accorded the basic modicum of security something that unfortunately a few Muslim countries seem to struggle with, namely Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan.

Let's hope for an enjoyable game and may the best team win.

  1. How were Egypt allowed to play this game after this attack? It should have been awarded to Algeria, obviously. Players were playing with bandages. This isn't justice. This is a farce. FIFA should be more ashamed of themselves than anyone. They have acted the most inappropriately of all.
