Muslim Faith Groups to advise Government

John Denham the fantastic Labour secretary of State has told the Telegrapah that a new panel of religious experts will be advising the Government including Muslims.

Although London Muslim has a great deal of respect for Denham a Minister who resigned over Iraq and is probably the most supportive Minister towards Muslims in the Cabinet I'm afraid one has to say this announcement is probably to late.

The tragedy has been now that the Govt finally begins to distance itself from the worst excesses of New Labour the damage has been done politically with the Muslim community. The replacement of the vile Hazel Blears with her sidekick Paul Richards should have happened years ago.

Announcements like this with less than 6 months to go before an election are belatedly trying to win round a community that has been on the receiving end of New Labour for over 10 years and it wont work. I say this reluctantly as a Labour supporter not New Labour Blairite.

John Denham is a thoughtful progressive thinker and one of the few true friends Muslims have in the Cabinet but we needed the likes of him since 1997. In his absence for example London Labour in particular has been demoralised by Blairites and Israelites running the show. Labour desperately needs to reconnect with its core support and not just within the Muslim community whose only only crime over the decades has been to show political support and loyalty election after election for the Labour Party. The manifesto can be a start for arealignment but as I say just a start in the process of reconnection.
