Racist education system prevents Asian and Black Headteachers

A report by researchers at Manchester university has concluded that institutional racism is preventing Black and Asian teachers from progressing towards Head teaching roles.

Clearly for all the obvious reasons this is deeply worrying but I'd like to flag the impact these barriers may have on Muslim teachers. My concern is that Muslim teachers may conclude their best interests lie in pursuing a narrow faith based career and a result move towards Muslim faith schools.

Muslims kids who as I have previously mentioned are one of the worst educational achievers in the country desperately require Muslim role models and that means Muslim teachers.

While this report is timely its also shocking because educational racism is rather unexpected. Perhaps one often associates institutional racism in the Police force or medical profession or even Politics but education and the staffroom is surprising. What's also disappointing is the lack of political reaction and ideas on how to improve the situation.
