There were a couple of nuggets from Hamman al Yaqobu the Chairman of Iraq's Tourist Board about how you should not go alone in order to ensure your safety and also in Basra you are currently guaranteed a "70-80%" chance of nothing untoward occurring on your visit.
Apparently, despite the country being in ruins, there are no direct flights, you can't go shopping or sightseeing, you cant get insurance etc but the man who probably has one of the more trickier selling jobs in the world is still keen on in particular European and American Tourists.
