Baroness Uddin, expenses and the House of Frauds

Baroness Uddin seems mired in the expenses controversy which is deeply troubling for a number of reasons not least from her own personal perspective as possible criminal charges are pending which could mean her serving time.

London Muslim has always admired the politics of Baroness Uddin, a gutsy Bangladeshi Muslim who was never a Blairite and always stood firm in promoting Muslim causes. However, its difficult enough promoting the need for political engagement within the Muslim community notwithstanding leading Muslim political figures appearing to be on the take.

While I hear the cries of foul play in the coverage of Expenses by Muslims who argue why in case of Stephen Byers the word Jew will not be mentioned but no hesitation is made articulating Uddin as "the first Muslim peer", I disagree with the analogy.

London Muslim believes the coverage by the Torygraph as distinct from others who jumped on the bandwagon was about expenses not racist or selective in any sense. In view of the current climate we Muslims have to accept although not agree that while we may be held to a different standard by some it's incumbent on in particular our Muslim political figures to be above board thus not exposing the rest of us to allegations of sharp practice.

The expenses scandal is shocking for the manner in which politicians of all parties, faiths and gender milked the system for all they could although yes of course its disappointing to say the least that a Muslim is one six politicians whose case has been sent to the CPS for possible prosecution.

  1. Let's face it. She's a crook and playing the race card as usual. Nothing changes.

  2. THIS WOMAN SHOULD BE PROSECUTED, HOW CAN SHE SAY THAT HER MAIN RESIDENCE IS NOT THE PROPERTY AT WHICH SHE RESIDES WITH HER FAMILY, BUT AN EMPTY FLAT VISITED ONCE A MONTH. SHE IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW THE NEW LABOUR ARE OUT FOR THEMSELVES.SHE IS NO BETTER THAN A COMMON THIEF.
IF SHE WAS CHRISTIAN, AND HER FAMILEY WAS MANY GENERATION BRITISH SHE WOULD BE PROSECUTED. BUT MUSLIM AND OF ASIAN BACKGROUND - RACIAL DISCRIMINATION.
