British Muslim raped in Dubai told to get married

London Muslim previously wrote about the claim of a young London Muslim girl who alleges she was raped in Dubai before the Police arrested her for having sex with her fiance outside marriage.

Apparently, the bungling Dubai police have told the woman that if she wants to be released she should first drop the allegations of rape and then marry her fiance.

  1. Thats so sad. That's like: "i'm going to cry" sad.
People just dont understand what rape does to a woman - they just dont care.
    Woman-haters.
    Thats what they are.

  2. If the law of the land is sex outside marriage (and drinking alcohol) is illegal, people should respect that when going on holiday to such places.

Also, the marriage issue and the rape issues are different - she admitted to breaking the law in other ways when reporting a crime.

If a bank robber is a victim of a hit and run, should any charges for armed robbery be dropped?

Yes, the crime is horrendous and the perpetrator should be severely punished, but that does not give people carte blanche to break other laws.

Or maybe it will get people to avoid places like Dubai that are built on the shoulders of modern day slavery - or worse conditions than that, as slaves were given rights.

  3. I agree that people should obey laws - but there will always be dissent. If there was no chance of dissent you wouldnt need the laws in the first place.

But telling a woman to marry her rapist is NOT justice. How is that Justice?

Maybe I have lost my mind, and its only me that it seems nuts t0, so if someone can clarify for me the justice element I would be tremendously grateful.

  4. Actually reading the article would help you answer that question.

She is not being asked to marry her rapist, but her Fiancé, whose proposal she had gone to Dubai to celebrate in the first place.

Her rapist was someone else who followed her to the lavatory while she was inebriated.

The future-husband-to-be was not the rapist and is also charged with indecency over alcohol and sex outside marriage related offences.

Just as a further clarification, the woman is not being charged with having sex outside marriage with the rapist, but with her boyfriend/husband-to-be.

All of this is made clear in many of the articles on the subject online, but the headlines are far more... sensationalist.

Dissent of Dubai's laws can be carried out by not going there - we are not talking about citizens opposing the local law, but tourists going to a land and breaking the laws there.
