London Muslim is pleased the Government have finally seen sense and appear set to ban smacking in Muslim schools.
I wrote about this previously urging the Govt to take action in view of some of the nutters that are teaching in Madrassah's and am glad that Ed Balls a good friend of the Muslim community is doing the right thing by closing this loophole.

Common sense would be to unban it everywhere - this is not the type of thing government should be legislating, but parents deciding on how they wish their children to be chastised - as long as there are some limits, but the no physical chastisement rule is IMO too harsh - some kids need it.
ReplyDeleteI am not a Muslim, but a teacher who is totally agnostic, and I assure you that some form of punishment is an absolute must for all schools, regardless of faith. If that punishment involves some form of reasonable physical contact, in the form of smacking or the cane, then so be it. There are many schools where the kids rule the roost, because "you can't touch me - I know my rights you know".
ReplyDeleteI also, by the way, applaud your disapproval of faith schools. I spend a lot of time in Catholic schools, and the level of inculcation is sickening. I imagine other faiths' schools are similar.
