The Government has just pushed through a not very well publicised clause in the Education Bill which allows Faith Schools to opt out of teaching homosexuality and contraception.
London Muslim believes this is yet another nail in the coffin from Ed Balls in the road to creating a divided society on the grounds of faith. One simply needs to talk to any Muslim parent to realise the major concern they have about Education is kids being taught Sex education in State Community schools.
What Ed Balls has done is made it clear to all Muslim parents that should you wish your kids to avoid Sex education send them to a Faith school. The direct result of this disastrous clause will be a significant increase in applications for Muslim Faith schools.
Ed Balls is someone who is a close friend of the Muslim community and as a result one of the few politicians I admire. However Ed, sometimes its incumbent on friends to tell friends honestly when they are going wrong and this clause is a classic example of a small bigoted section of the Catholic faith unduly influencing legislation to the detriment of a cohesive society.

Why do you concude that it's the schools and Ed Balls dividing the society and not the parents?
ReplyDeleteThis is the law of our land. Why, then, if you want your children to learn a different law, do you put pressure on your schools?
First - it's sex education. Then? What comes after that?
I think London Muslim needs to lay the cards at the correct persons position at the table. Its not the government dividing the society - it's the parents who want to raise their kids in a different way to the rest of the nation. What should the government do? Divide up the schools themselves??
You're too biased here. If you could just stop being biased for a second, and imagine that instead of Muslims - maybe...OK, lets say Massai Warriors came to England yeah? And they came to school and they wanted the right to wear their traditional dress OK. They they wanted their children to be taught a certain type of sex education that forbids contraception, and they wanted the right to have ear piercings through their nose and for girls to do PE without tops on. And then lets say this Ed Balls said "no".
Would it then be fair for the Massai Warriors to say that our government is discriminatory and unfair?
No. No London Muslim. It would not be fair.
Its our internal culture and demand for extra rights than everyone else that is dividing our society - not Ed Balls.
YOur bias betrays your intelligence.
London School of Islamics is an educational Trust. Its aim is to make
ReplyDeleteBritish public, institutions and media aware of the needs and demands of the
Muslim community in the field of education and possible solutions.
The demand for state funded Muslim schools is in accordance with the law of
the land. Muslim community is not asking for any favour. Muslim community
pays all sorts of taxes and is contributing for the economic, social and
spiritual prosperity of the British society.
Bilingual Muslim Children need state funded muslim schools with bilingual
Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods. There is
no place for a non-Muslim child or a teacher in a Muslim school. It is
better to put your children in a toilet instead of in a state school. At
least if you put them in a toilet you can wash them after. If you put your
children into state schools, you are sending them to be indoctrinated with
the common views and beliefs of a society.Children are young and
impressionable. There is a danger that liberal, feminist, radicalist and
homosexual and lesbian teachers are implanting their values into children.
It is a well known fact that children tend to listen to their teachers
before their parents. There are hundreds of state and church schools where
Muslim children are in majority. In my opinion, all such schools may be
designated as Muslim Community schools.
A Muslim is a citizen of this timy global village. He/she does not want to
become notoriously monolingual Brit. A Muslim needs to learn and be well
versed in Standard English to follow the National Curriculum and go for
higher studies and research to serve humanity. At the same time, he/she
needs to learn and be well versed in Arabic, Urdu and other community
languages to keep in touch with their cultural roots and enjoy the beauty of
their literature and poetry.

My response: It could be a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI think such ability to provide an influence on the flavour of teaching should be extended to all schools.
