London Muslim uses the term "disturbing" in a different context than perhaps many readers. Frankly I am fairly sanguine although don't condone violence within a prison because anyone with a bit of common sense will realise prisoners are not members of the Bullingdon Club. Some prisoners are violent individuals and as a result violence is a daily occurrence within the four walls of a jail. In this context the brutish BNP/EDL sympathising thugs who also inhabit prisons need to realise Muslims can and will defend themselves.
My real difficult is about what appears to be the violent forced conversion of individuals who seem desperate for protection by Muslim gangs. Forced violent conversions have nothing to do with Islam and those Muslims that indulge in such practices need to stop forthwith. In these circumstances one wonders where the Muslim Prison Imams are and what they are doing to prevent these forced conversions. Yes explain the beauty of Islam for those genuinely interested in exploring our faith and want guidance but don't give succour to our enemies who delight in regaling how Islam is only spread by the sword.
More generally the growing Muslim prison population is also a sad indictment of our own community. There is no excuse for crime particularly if you call yourself Muslim and while those inside seem to think its worthy to beat four bells out of those who "disrespect" Islam they may like to ponder on the Nazi's who disrespect our faith on the outside by marching on our mosques.
London Muslim urges Muslim prisoners to seek Allah (swt) forgiveness for the crimes they have committed, clean themselves up and help those of us on the outside who defend our mosques with comrades on the left from the Anti Fascist and Trade Union movement. There is a job to be done on the outside which requires our Muslim Prison brothers to do their porridge and then defend our communities starting with Bolton.
