Fatima Bhutto: A true Muslim heroine

Unlike her Aunty Benazir, London Muslim has a lot of time for Fatima Bhutto who is in the UK for the Hay Festival.

With her father Murtaza slain by the usual suspects in Pakistan she has steadfastly and courageously spoken out for human rights and against the corruption that blights Pakistan which has fast become a political basket case of fanatics, extremists and military despots.

London Muslim hopes and prays she gets justice for her father, the Bobby Kennedy of Pakistani politics before his life was cut short by murderous thugs.

  1. An interesting take on a young, glamorous member of one of Pakistan's most notorious and corrupt families.
The cynical view is that it's simply a matter of time before Fatima enters Pakistani politics; all this talk of human rights is skilful self-marketing to the Western world.
I think the Bhutto family has left such a black stain on Pakistani political history that it'll be very difficult for Fatima to prove herself as a credible, trustworthy, non-corrupt spokesperson/ activist.

  3. With all due respect, Fatima's father Murtaza was not a democrat nor a champion of democracy. After the execution of his father, with his younger brother Shahnawaz and some accomplices, he formed a terrorist organization Al-Zulfikar - named after his father. His organization hijacked a Pakistan International Airlines plane and took it to Kabul where he or one of his accomplices Tipu killed a young army officer Tariq Rahim thinking that he was the son of General Rahim a key henchman of the dictator General Zia Ul Haq.Murtaza's organization was responsible for several incidents of terrorism. He fell out with his sister Benazir because he thought that he was the rightfull heir to the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party founded and lead by their father until his death. It is wrong to compare Murtaza or the Bhutto family to the Kennedy family. The Kennedys never claimed that the Democratic Party was their personal fiefdom. Unfortunately, every major Pakistani political leader treats his party as his personal fiefdom to be inherited by his sons etc. The leadership of the PPP went to Benazir although some of the founding fathers of the Party were not only alive but also more capable and deserving. After her death, the leadership has been passed on to her husband and son Bilawal. As to the murder of Murtaza, it was tragic. It is alleged that his murder was engineered by the ISI to settle an old score relating to the days when Murtaza operated Al-Zulfikar. However, his family have blamed Asif Ali Zardari and Benazir Bhutto for his murder.
