London Muslim has written about the taboo subject of Gay Muslims before a subject that still touches a raw nerve within the Muslim community and for that matter all communities.
Islam is clear and unequivocal on the subject of homosexuality with both the Quran and hadith condemning sexual relations between persons of the same Sex . However, unlike some fruitcakes like Ahmadinjad who bizarrely state homosexuality does not exist in Iran the reality is it does and we first need to acknowledge their existence before addressing attitudes towards gay Muslims.
The BBC have a very interesting article about the role Imams are playing in relation to the human aspect of Gay Muslim seeking their advice. While old attitudes die hard and there is without doubt prejudice in the community progressive Imams are in a better position to judge than me on Muslim lesbians wearing the Hijab or Gay couples not only seeking civil partnerships but some requesting a Nikah which is the Muslim marriage contract.

ReplyDeleteThe types of relations that are halaal are mentioned in the qur'an ,so why do these Imams think "this is haraam, but we will still allow it"?
What religious authority do they have to bend the rules of Shariah?
If people want to commit haraam, they are well within their rights (to a reason), but providing religious cover for it is a horrible thing to do, because that is making Islam into a social club where you are willing to bend the rules to make people feel comfortable.
So "You" a gay person isn't a human being in your eyes. If you are born gay, don't you think it's nature, not up to some god to decide what a person happens to be. And definately not someone like you, or anybody come to that, to decide someones sexual preference.
ReplyDeleteIf you live in Britain we live and let live here, so you can freely practice your religion and if someones gay they can be. We don't practice sharia law. So if you don't like it, leave.
