Afshan Azad the Muslim actress who famously starred in the Harry Potter film series as Padma Patil appears to be sadly the victim of an honour crime committed by her Dad and brother who are both accused of threatening to kill her over a Hindu boyfriend.
According to some reports Afshan of Bangladeshi descent was confronted by her family over the boyfriend and when she refused their requests to leave him it all kicked off with the poor girl literally left battered and bruised but thankfully still alive and hiding with friends here in London.
Well let's hope her father and brother are thrown in goal for 10 years, but I expect they'll be let off with with a caution as it's their tradition to beat up and kill.

I suppose it's more honorable to go to prison than to have a daughter that misbehaves in the families and communities eys, some logic! If you live in the west, and take full advantage of all that's on offer, live by those values or clear off.

ReplyDeleteI have Muslim friends, and I know that Islam is a very peaceful religion. It could be a rule for Muslims only to date Muslims (not Hindus, Christians, Jews, Buddhist, etc), and I understand that. But I know that Allah (the Islamic God) would not appreciate almost killing a loved one.

Anybody who thinks they have a right to beat, threaten or murder their daughter over who she sees has no right to live in our Western society. And that includes any Westerners who are sick enough to perform similar acts. They should all be locked up for life or deported and barred from entering the country if they were not born there.

ReplyDeletePeople like Afshan`s brother and father need to realise that they are living in Britain and that this is the 21st century. If they don`t agree with Britain`s laws and culture, then they should just go back to their country, where they can practice their own rules and regulations.
Yeah, it is natural to want to marry or date someone from the same background and with the same values as you, but at the end of the day you can`t help whom you are attracted to. Status and honour are just pointless to be honest, especially in Britain and in this century. Love is more powerful and stronger than status.

Muslims or Asians as such, when they migrate to a country, they linger on to the culture that they bring with them at the time of migration, and then enforce that on their children. Things have moved on in Asia as well and I am sure there are a lot of inter-religious marriages in Bangladesh now, however Afshan's parents are still living in the times of Banglaseshi society of 70s or early 80s. They can never even be a true Bangladeshi anymore and will always be a misfit in UK. Please move on with times and let your kids do the same!

All religions are from centuries ago and their adherents are holding on to the supposed knowledge and beliefs of superstitious, frightened, and ignorant people. I wish that all adults would take the time to learn about the origins and history of all religions, instead of blindly believing what their parents insist that they believe. In my opinion there is no evidence for god, and all religions are mad-made constructs.
