Sadly Muslim kids are being allowed by schools to be withdrawn from Music lessons by their primitive parents because in their backward minds playing a Musical instrument is banned in Islam.
Scholars in Islam differ on the merits of Music with some believing it is Haram while other more enlightened and progressive scholars agreeing Music is permitted so long as it does not contain sensual, pagan or unethical themes something the local school choir is not renowned for.

Well, their community has this own belief, that Music may be bad for their religion.. Anyway, we just have to believe in it - I just hope that the media would take these things respectfully..

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry...
How does music sound when it's :: sensual?
How does music sound when it's :: pagan?
How does music sound when it's :: unethical?
Surely the words to any song might be one or all of the above - but not the music itself?
The words to Je t'aime are sensual but the music without the words is ... just sweet music.
What am I missing? Music "might" include singing? Guitar and/or piano practice doesn't.
No Cassie. We don't have to "believe in it" or even treat it "respectfully." It's a rotten stupid idea to immigrate to a freedom loving country for a better life and then forbid the profound cultural aspects of that better life to one's children because music is "bad for the religion."
The whole idea is horrid and obnoxious and should be treated with the contempt it deserves and make no mistake that goes for those funny Christian types who also hold this type of "belief."
Music is bad for the religion! My eye!
FGS: Does no-one even remember the music of Mozart, Bach and Beethoven anymore?
