A British mum was arrested in Dubai after having an argument with an Arab woman about her skimpy attire.
Lets remember the debate about those racists who support Phillip Hollobone's attempt to ban the Niqab because, as the argument goes it's not part of British culture to cover one's face. London Muslim looks forward to all the racists who support the banning of the Niqab showing consistency by also supporting Dubai's right to tell a British women to dress according to Muslim customs. Yeh right fat chance, the only consistency is from people like Caroline Spellman and Sayeeda Warsi who continue to argue like me that nobody has the right to interfere in somebody else's wardrobe.
Let's be clear what a certain section of white folk cannot tolerate is being told what to do by non white folk. My view is simple it's about consistency, should for example France pursue it's policy of banning the Niqab then the entire Muslim world should unite and when a Frog arrives in a Muslim country, explain the Muslim custom of modesty, give them a Niqab to wear and if they refuse kick them out. Consistency, one rule for all that's my view, if the civilised West has it's customs which we should all adhere too then Muslims also have our customs which you should respect.

ReplyDeleteOf course Dubai residents should be able to tell foreigners how to dress, that is their right, while it is ours to insist on seeing peoples faces.
When in Turkey in 1968 if I went into any mosque, remember mini skirts were in fashion here, I was given lengths of fabric to cover myself with, which I did without complaint. I accepted their way of life and customs. Now why don't muslims accept ours and learn to live as we do in the west, as I learnt to do what the east wanted. After all we are NOT A MUSLIM COUNTRY, the answer is if you don't like it leave.
When Britain/France/Russia occupied so many different nation why did the colonial occupiers not fit into the local customs of the people but try to change them instead.
ReplyDeleteThis attempt to change Muslim customs is not new but has been going on for a long time. Today it is about attempting to assimilate the local immigrant population.
Also i noticed some Brits living in Turkey cannot speak a word of Turkish can you tell them to integrate please.
no you're not part of a muslim country but supposedly secular and democratic. Well last i checked in a secular country the dress code=anything goes except complete nudity unless on nudist beach or confines of own home. So in that context a muslim woman can cover her face, she's respecting the laws of the land, what's the issue exactly?
