LM has written extensively about the disgusting practice of child marriage and before the beards kick off I have cited fatwa's from renowned scholars who also reject this practice in current times.
Recently we have had a series of own goals on the topic of marriage with one sick fruitcake claiming rape is "impossible" within marriage.
However, finally and not before time some good news on the topic of child marriage or lets call it what it really is child rape, a Malaysian Islamic court has ruled that the "marriage" of an 11 year old girl to a 41 year old man is illegal. I'm not surprised that the man was trying it on with his fourth wife which highlights the focus on sex and nothing else. In addition, although I don't condone the actions I'm not surprised that some Muslim sisters have had enough of being one of four wife's.

I love the way LM handles a complex issue with such subtlety, not e.g. childish name-calling "beards".
ReplyDeleteThe beard is a practical manifestation of the Sunnah, so is being a pogonophobe a rational standpoint for a claimed follower of the bearded Prophet? Furthermore, one who is so obviously irked by this sunnah speaks volumes.
Now back to the topic. It is a complex one, & a Muslim should not fear judgement by a society which itself cannot hold a consistent position. When muslims fear man instead of Allah & become capricious, that is tragic.
The fact is that YES, under current Western cultural attitudes "Child" marriage is what most of humanity INCLUDING the prophets did. The age of consent as a historical topic may surprise many. Even the jibe about paedophilia can be seen to be unscientific & irrational if seen from a scientific & etymological definition.
The only valid point LM raises is the Islamic view about psychological readiness for marriage. The selective use of the odd scholar against the majority consensus is like the similitude of the sheep on its own & the wolf.

How does LM know it was JUST about sex & nothing else, conjecture? There is nothing wrong with halala sex, in fact it accrues divine rewards. The Anglo-Saxon distaste with regard to the topic smacks of cultural baggage & fearing the blame.
well the marriage wasnt valid to b honest. the court find out that this man married this child not according the sharia's law. even the father of the child didnt know that the man took his daughter as the 4th wife. but this man is sick.
