The War of words grows after a football match between Indonesia and Malaysia

Sadly the one thing that you can guarantee will result in a fanatical Muslim reaction is on the issue of a football occasion between fellow Muslim countries.

You may recall LM highlighting the farcical reaction by fans, politicians and even Journalists when Algeria and Egypt kicked off during a 2010 World Cup Football qualifier resulting in Libya's Colonel Gaddafi having to be appointed as a special mediator by both the Arab League and FIFA.

Last night Indonesia and Malaysia two predominantly Muslim countries played each other with Malaysia winning 3-0 however, Indonesian fans reacted furiously to allegations that Malaysian fans used laser beams to cheat their way to victory leading to such a worldwide reaction that the issue was trending on Twitter.

Following the Algerian-Egypt model, Indonesia's President will lodge a formal complaint accusing Malaysia of cheating and sadly after irresponsible reporting by the Jakarta Post talking up a "soccer war" between these two traditional Muslim rivals the situation looks as though it inevitably will lead to strained diplomatic relations.

I'm no supporter of cheating but surely the reaction is hysterical to say the least and possibly being used by those with a mischievous agenda particularly when you consider Indonesia's President remained silent after his own people ie Indonesian maids were literally being abused by Saudi employers behaving like tyrants.

The return match is on Wednesday and with riots in Indonesia just over ticket sales LM urges both countries to calm down before someone literally dies over a football match.
