LM agrees with Peter Tatchell that the honours system is a "medievel farce".
For my rapidly growing international readership the Honours system here in the UK is a quaint old tradition where the British Establishment in the guise of old white male crusty civil servants sit down and decide who they should offer awards too.
The process is almost as secretive as a Masonic AGM although usually senior white Permanent Secretaries along with other Tory luminaries like writer and cricket aficionado "Sir" Tim Rice draw up a list of their mates who they go to the Opera or Theatre with, including for good measure a few other do gooders that never usually rock the boat.
What LM finds so amusing about the awards is that they have these grand old titles like OBE and CBE with the E standing for Empire yet when will this country recognise we no longer have an empire. How bizarre and typical of the English in particular to continue living off their dubious colonial legacy by referencing the "British Empire" which no longer exists.

There are a quite a few ethnic minorities on the list but you probably started sprouting your racist, hypocritical garbage without even knowing what you were talking about, as usual.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever given any thought how those evil white people in the Red Cross indiscriminately send aid to Muslim countries, when was the last time the Red Crescent helped a Christian?
ReplyDeleteAnd what a about when the Tsunami hit Indonesia, who was sending millions in aid? I guess the Tsunami was white peoples fault too. How about the floods in Pakistan?
You are actually a joke.
25% of peers are Jewish but only 0.5% of the British population is Jewish. Not sure how that works in a democracy...
ReplyDeleteIn proportion to population, ethnic minorities are massively under-represented in both the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
ReplyDeleteThe only minority group that has plenty of people (read: that is over represented) are Jews. The Jewish community has done very well for itself in this regard.
