Peace talks have finally been agreed between Muslim freedom fighters known as the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippines Government over a bloody long running campaign to create a independent Muslim state on Mindanao.
Nothing less than Independence for Muslim Mindanao will be acceptable for a people that have been exploited by largely Catholic Philippines because of the mineral rich resources on Mindanao.
Since the freedom uprising started which has never been given publicity in either the Muslim or Western media over 100,000 have died and what is equally shocking was that a peace deal had been agreed in 2008 before Philippines Supreme Court disgracefully outlawed the deal.
President Acquino needs to urgently stop the bloodshed and show some courageous leadership by allowing the Muslim people of Mindanao to be granted their independence with Murad Ibrahim (pictured) leader of the MILF to be its first head of state. Any further failure of peace talks leaves the people of Mindanao with no other option but to leave their fate in the hands of the 12,000 armed fighters of the MILF with support from Muslim Indonesia and Malaysia.
just some background, the muslims where in the philippines long before the phillipines had ever heard of christianity. Then the spanish came and imposed catholicism, but they couldn't conquer mindanao. Then the american protestants came, slaughtered the catholics and eventually took mindanao.

Yes they traded with the arabs and converted to islam.
unlike the poor phillipinos who where invaded, attacked , mutilated and force to convert to christianity. An account we are all to familiar with throughout the new world
Professor TW Arnold's magnum opus "The preaching of Islam" is a fact-filled comprehensive account of the historical spread of Islam. (There are amazing references to jizya in the Balkans, which at first sight may appear to be punitive against those who remained Christian, but in fact are much more nuanced & neutral.)
