Why do Moroccan Muslims prostrate and kiss the hand of a King?

LM as my regular readers will know is no fan of royalty because I believe authority should be earned not inherited.

Imagine my surprise when I read about a demeaning royal protocol in Morocco that compels citizens to not only prostrate before the King but also kiss his hand.

LM believes Moroccans should tell the King to shove the protocol up his Fez while reminding him that Muslims prostrate to nobody other than Allah (swt)

  1. Good point, respect should be earned, and royalty think they have an automatic right to rule us and demand our obedience.

However I don't understand why anyone would prostrate themselves to Allah or any God. A supreme being would not ask, or expect, such a act of devotion. They would see what is in our hearts and in our actions. Prayer and worship is done for our own sakes, not for an almighty power.

  2. Allah , god of islam Does ask muslims to bow down and prostrate to him. Through praying 5 times daily, muslims recite the quran, memorizing the quran, and so the quran never changes.

Praying daily is also good for health, since your exercising daily.

your only human, you dont know what god wants. we only know through scripture what he wants.

  4. How do you know that Mohammad was a messenger of Allah? How do you know Jesus was the son of God? How do you know that God created the world?

From books written hundreds of year ago!

How do we know they are right?

well i take it you're an atheist? how do we know well this question will lead to science, it all comes down to whether you believe the big bang was caused by god or had no cause ...

if you read the quran its compatible with science while bible isnt.

  6. Can anyone see there feelings emotions? no, but they are there. How do you know they are there? because you cant see them, you cant touch them, you dont hear them with your ears, but they are there. So with God how do we know he is there here everywhere because his creation us the world and all its vast beauty and intricate detail has a designer beyond your imagination.
You would have to be an empty shell to not realize this...

  7. salaam alaykum, i'm moroccan, born and living in rabat, the protocal you're talking about may be a "sufi inheritance" but i'm not sure, in any case some moroccan individuals don't kiss the king's hand to greet him (it was sort of mandatory when hassan II was the king), but several do by hypocrisy and others by respect. it must be a tradition, because for me as a moroccan, i used to kiss my grandparent's hands and even today i kiss my parents hands(sometimes)even if they don't ask me to do it, it's a sign of affection and respect to them.

to Marc: we don't see the air we breathe, nor the intelligence we show yet we keep believing they exist :)
    have a nice day!
