The Dutch Parliaments vote to ban Halal and Kosher Religious slaughter methods is in my opinion a dangerous direct attack on the religious freedom of Dutch Muslims and Jews.
LM has to say I am not particularly surprised that a nation whose army acquiesced in the genocide of Bosnian Muslims can now introduce this miserable legislation disguised as protecting animals from inhumane slaughter methods.
This is not an issue of animal rights over religious rights it is more about an alliance of animal extremists and the Far Right ironically Nazi Scum Geert Wilders designing a programme to encourage Muslims and Jews to emigrate. The Dutch parliaments vote is the equivalent of Nazi Kristallnacht or the night of broken glass the appalling pogrom against Jews which led to "the final solution" and the Holocaust.
Lets be perfectly clear just like in America where they are trying to ban circumcision Muslims and Jews must unite with others of faith and non faith to protect our rights before it is too late and we end up with the likes of Wilders emulating his hero Hitler.

This ban on unstunned meat may be a blessing in disguise and open up the whole debate of stunning/unstunning organic, tayyib and ahl a kitab
ReplyDeleteAs far as I was aware the legal situation in the UK as far as Kosher and Halal meat is concerned is currently covered by animal welfare legislation. Clear and unambiguous laws cover the transport, care and slaughter of animals entering the meat system.
ReplyDeleteExemptions are made for religious slaughter as an amendment to the animal welfare laws to allow the provision of Kosher and Halal to the respective religious groups.
What perhaps confuses a lot of people is the widespread nature of establishments selling Halal produce in restaurants, fast food outlets etc. If as the law states the exemption in the animal welfare laws is to provide meat slaughtered according to Halal traditions for a religiously observant then why is it so widespread in the general meat chain?
The total numbers of religiously observant people who whould desire a steady supply of Halal meat could not be more than 1.9% of the UK population (probably less) - provanance in the meat chain is desirable is it not?
As a non-Muslim and non-Jew I can eat pre-stunned, halal and kosher meat. However a Muslim or Jew does not have that same freedom of purely personal choice as their religious beliefs restrict what can be eaten. Therefore, if there are Muslims and Jews in the world, then there must be halal and kosher meats around.
ReplyDeleteIt should be remembered that there is no nice and pretty way to kill an animal. This is recognised by both Muslims and Jews and both religions have developed very strict rules on how an animal can be killed and not following these rules is not an option as it would be tantamount to insulting God. This is not the case with the western style pre-stunning method.
I view this as an attack of the religious freedoms of Muslims and Jews, which is really rather sad and pathetic and I would hope that the Christian churches and general populace would speak out against such restrictions to people who are just practising their beliefs. Unfortunately this tends to happen too late for any good to transpire. I do not see any basis for such a ban other than some warped sense of superiority of one group of people over another and history tells where that nonsense will lead to.
Keep up the good work and oppose any such ban!
