Malaysia have declared a book by former Singapore PM Lee Kuan Yew haram because it criticised Islam and banned the book nine months after it first went on sale.
LM wrote about this book previously where to be fair Lee Kuan Yew did apologise for his remarks when he himself described the comments as "out of date". However, Malaysia as a progressive modern Muslim country should be tolerant of views that we may disagree with because book banning leads to book burning and we know from European history where that sadly leads too.
**Update** Jakim have now said they did not decide to ban the book

"because book banning leads to book burning" - great causal logic by LM, not!
ReplyDeleteSo does LM support uncensored paedo. works in that vein of absolute freedom to publish any book whatsoever without restriction?
Make your mind up.
