Are You A Muslim?

  1. I think it would be apt to include (at this point) a copy of the Hadj visa application form in which you have to state your name, surname, religion and: SECT

  2. I find there are other, more disturbing, elements on the form:
"All women are required to travel for Hajj with a Mahram. Proof of kinship must be submitted with the application form. Any woman over the age of 45 may travel without a Mahram with an organized group, provided she submits a letter of no objection from her husband, son or brother, authorizing her to travel for Hajj with the named group. This letter should be notarized."
How do you feel, Jasmine, about needing permission from a man to fulfil one of Islam's pillars?
But then no doubt I find the fact that women are apparently not trusted to make their own decisions in the 21st century worrying because I'm a heathen atheist. And we're all going to burn in hell for an eternity according to the most merciful among those who are merciful...

  3. Spinoza, I don't think a simple yes or no is going to convey the depth of my thinking on the issue that you raise... but in short: there is a lot about Saudi practices and laws that bothers me

  4. Allah is closer to you than the jugular vein in your neck.We don't need an intermediary such as imam or prophet to communicate with Almighty Allah.

  6. With regards to the above comments i've been on Umrah and made up that a one of the elderly gentleman in the group was my granddad. My mum went on Hajj and she did the same. As scholars have stated that requiring a mahram to go do someone thing compulsory on every man and woman is nonsense.
The second comment who states you need intermediaries? I've given cited above that scholars have decreed that nothing in Islam requires you to have an mahram on Hajj or Umrah. That scholar knows a lot more than me and the person i've referred to has all their qualifications apparent so I can judge they have knowledge. Does that take away from me having the ability to communicate with Allah direct? No school of thought has every implied or stated that you cannot communicate with Allah direct. How sad that people are so lazy that rather than discovering for themselves they rely on copy and paste information on websites and doctored You Tube links.
I personally think Dr Naik should stick to being a GP and perhaps not go into theological debates he hasn't been educated in. As clearly he gets it very wrong.
