ReplyDeleteThis is a good counter punch to the virulent Islamophobic industry we have in this country. I think Muslim women should be encouraged to wear hijabs like this. Its a powerful statement in these times and can dispel a lot of falsehoods about Islam.
ReplyDeleteThink about it, if the uptake was popular then Muslim women will have led and won the fight to reclaim the union jack, no other community right now has the psychological capital to subvert the undertones of this flag, many think tanks, political groups,educationists have attempted and failed.
Royalist or not (like me)the opportunity could serve as an incredible catalyst to nullifying so many misconceptions about Islam in this country. Think about the types of people scratching their heads when they see an image like this. Its worth it.

It makes a statement true, but what is this really saying, to me it says: i love you Britain to the extent that i would lower myself to wear your union jack on my head as proof that i`m not a terrorist!

After reading a few posts on this blog (somehow got here when researching london tube bombings for a paper)s I have come to the conclusion that London/UK has some very radical people who claim to be Muslim yet spew such hatred towards their country. As the saying goes, if you don't like it ...LEAVE. The woman in the photo is great and I am happy so see people so patriotic in such divisive times in the world.
